Wirral Registration Service will soon be moving to Wallasey Town Hall

From the 1 July 2025 Wirral Registration Service will be relocating from Birkenhead to Wallasey Town Hall.

Birkenhead Town Hall will be closed for day-to-day operations and no further bookings will be taken for any ceremonies there.

We can fit 60 guests in the room. Registrars can also attend other venues for ceremonies. Check with each venue for their capacity and opening times.

Statutory ceremonies at Birkenhead Town Hall

These ceremonies will take place on Wednesdays at 9am, 9:30am, 10am and 10:30am subject to availability.

A statutory ceremony is a simple legal ceremony. There is strictly no provision for additional guests, music, or ceremony embellishment.

The ceremony will take place in the Superintendent’s Office, the room capacity only allows for the two people to be married or forming a civil partnership and two witnesses. The witnesses must be over the age of 16 and able to understand English. Register Office staff are unable to act as witnesses.

The Statutory ceremony fee is £68.50. This includes one marriage certificate, which will be posted out approximately 7 to 10 days following the ceremony.

Notice of marriage must be completed through your local council 3 to 4 months before the marriage date and is in addition to the £68.50 ceremony fee.

If you or your partner do not have the appropriate immigration status the Home Office will automatically be notified, the notice period could be extended to 70 days while they investigate. The notice fee is £114 per couple.

Enhanced Statutory Ceremony (additional guests)

These ceremonies will take place on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm, 2:30pm and 3pm subject to availability.

A statutory ceremony is a simple legal ceremony. There is strictly no provision for music, or ceremony embellishment.

The ceremony will take place in our small marriage room on the ground floor. The room capacity only allows for two people to be married or forming a civil partnership and up to 10 guests. The witnesses must be included in this number, be over the age of 16 and able to understand English. Register Office staff are unable to act as witnesses.

The Enhanced statutory ceremony fee is £168.50. This includes one marriage certificate, which will be posted out approximately 7 to 10 days following the ceremony.

To secure a date and time for a statutory ceremony you are required to pay £48 it is a non-refundable booking fee, not a deposit and is not removed from the final balance.
