History of Bebington Cemetery

Bebington Cemetery opened in June 1868 at a cost of £17,900 following a population increase within the area due to the Industrial Revolution and the Irish potato famine.

The cemetery originally contained three chapels serving Church of England, Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist. Only the Church of England chapel remains. It has been re-opened by the Romanian Orthodox Church and dedicated to St Paisie (1722-1794).

The cemetery contains over 2000 graves, which include Commonwealth War Graves and a war memorial cross and a roll of honour remembering those who gave their lives in World War I. The cemetery also contains survivors form the Titanic, HMS Thetis and the Charge of the Light Brigade.
