Drinking water quality is governed by specific regulations. It’s the duty of the local water and sewerage company, United Utilities to sample and analyse mains drinking water from consumers’ taps.
The results are sent to Environmental Health and the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), who are the central government regulatory body responsible for enforcing drinking water quality standards.
If you have a problem with drinking water quality, officers from Environmental Health can offer advice and refer your complaint to United Utilities.
