What is HUG2?

The Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) can provide energy efficiency upgrades and low carbon heating to households in England that:

  • are low income
  • are off the gas grid
  • have an an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) between D and G

Eligible heating fuel types

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Coal
  • Oil
  • Electric
  • Smokeless Fuel
  • Propane
  • Gas Fires (that is, you can still have the use of gas fires as long as they are not considered your whole house heating system. This is determined by the EPC)

Check your EPC rating

Homes that can receive support

  • properties that are identified as off the gas grid (your home does not use gas for ALL main heating purposes)
  • properties with an EPC band D to G
  • owner occupiers or private rented tenants (At least one-third contribution by Private Landlord)
  • households’ annual income of £36,000 or below,
  • or households living within eligible postcodes as set by the government

Progress of applications and the improvements offered will depend on many factors, such as technical, the EPC, a retrofit assessment and previous funding accessed.

There is also a cap on the grant funding, and this is dependant on your property type.

Bogus callers

Most of the time, people who come to your door will be genuine callers, but it is always best to be sure. All councils, LCRCA staff and our contractors Ecogee working on the HUG2 funding programme will carry photographic identification, as should anyone representing other organisations.

If you are unsure of someone’s identity, do not let them in.

If you do not think someone is genuine, report it to Ecogee on 0151 521 4520 or you can call the Police on 101.

Our appointment contractor will never ask a resident for money or a cash-based contribution when booking an appointment.
