Secondary education information for parents - Wirral Attendance Team

Good school attendance can improve the life chances of all children. Our attendance team works to improve attendance levels in schools in Wirral. They help schools to fulfil their legal responsibilities.

The service also has responsibilities for:

  • children educated at home
  • traveller children
  • children missing from education
  • child employment
  • children involved in performances and entertainment

They work with the public, schools, local authority colleagues and other agencies.

It is a parent's responsibility to make sure children regularly go to school. Sometimes poor school attendance and lateness can become a safety issue. Early help and targeted support aim to ensure a child goes to school regularly.

If this doesn't work, schools may work with the Local Authority Enforcement Officer. The attendance team will help them to enforce the law around school attendance.
